Carbon, Oil on dimensional canvas with steel and silver bronzing powders; steel frame, 2011
This was one of my earliest dimensional paintings. The bronzing powder appeared bright silver when it was mixed into the paint but was almost invisible on the canvas, drying to a solid, almost “stealth” flat black. After it was dry, I lightly burnished the surface with a dry brush and the silver revealed itself in a lovely, subtle way. This piece can appear quite uniform under some lights but under others it comes alive with tone and texture. This piece demanded to be framed in steel and so I learned to weld.
